click to enlarge Shiva Sai wallpaper   Short Video: Significance of Shivaratri   Shivarathri 2013 - Prasanthi Mandir Sunday, March 10th, 2013   Shivarathri 2013 witnessed auspicious Lingabhishekam to the sanctified Sayeeshwara Lingam this morning in Prasanthi Nilayam that was followed by a relay of Divine Discourse and commencement of Akhanda Bhajan this evening here in Prasanthi Nilayam. The proceedings began at 1610 hrs. with a procession carrying the "Sayeeswara Lingam" to the venue in Sai Kulwant Hall to the holy chants of Vedam. Mounted on an elevated platform, the Lingam that was sanctified during the Ati Rudra Maha Yajna in 2006 in the immediate Divine Presence of Bhagawan was the centre of attraction for the evening. Ritualistic proceedings and Abhishekan continued with the Chief Priest Prof Nanjunda Dixit officiating the proceedings. Beginning with Maha Ganapathi Puja, milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar, turmeric, vibhuti, kumkum, mixed fruit, bilwa leaf, lotus flower, rudraksha were offered to the Lingam followed by Arathi after every offering. Sanctified water from sacred rivers of India were also offered to the Sayeeshwara Lingam as part of the ritual. Sri Sathya Sai Sahasra Namavali chanting followed with flower offerings at the Lingam before Mangala Arathi offering to the Lingam. The entire proceedings were conducted by Prof. Nanjunda Dixit who officiated the Ati Rudra Maha Yajnam in 2006. The Lingabhishekam is aimed at Universal Peace and Global Harmony.  Shivaratri Photo Gallery - click here   Divine discourse exhorting the esoteric significance of the auspicious night, Linga Tatwa was aired for the next fifteen minutes before the commencement of the Akhanda Bhajan. Accusation of others is the worst of the sins and one should refrain from doing so, said Bhagawan discoursing on Shiva Tathwa. Commenting about foolish perceptions arguing against idol worship, Bhagawan asked, is it not sacrifice of one's own life, running after money. Bhagawan's discourse ended with His favourite Bhajan, "Hari Bhajana Binaa Sukha Saanthi Nahi…"  that marked the beginning of the Akhanda Bhajan. Earlier in the morning, students sang an array of keertans and songs propitiating Lord Sai Shiva that included Bilvashtakam and an instrumental playing Rudra Thandava. Earlier, commencing the day's proceedings, University Percussion Band, both Nadaswaram and Panchavadyam, played for ten minutes apiece, after 20 minutes of Rudram chanting, heralding the auspiciousness of the occasion. Sri Rudra Vijayam on Maha Shivarathri Eve… Sunday, March 10th, 2013

When the Cosmic Dancer Lord Nataraja shakes His cosmic frame, leaping and swinging His legs, ankle bells jingling , shells blowing and arms reaching out like a cross, fiercely looking deep into His creation…He becomes Rudra and His dance is Rudra Thandava, His cosmic interplay of dynamic and static energy flow, containing five principles of eternal energy, creation, preservation, destruction, illusion and emancipation.     This evening, on the eve of Maha Shivarathri, the Prasanthi Dance Group of students from SSSIHL, Prasanthi Nilayam presented a Musical Dance Presentation entitled 'Sri Rudra Vijayam' depicting the epochal battle between Lord Nataraja, the Eternal Cosmic Dancer and Daksha Prajapathi, son of Lord Brahma and ruler of Temple Town Varanasi, whose daughter Sati defied her father marrying Lord Shiva.     The story began with Lord Shiva along with His servitors visiting Temple Town Kasi, seeking food to appease His hunger.     Being denied and insulted by the King, Daksha Prajapathi, Shiva calls out Mother Divine. Even as Mother Annapoorna Herself comes and feeds Shiva along with servitors, Shiva begins to dance in joy after appeasing His hunger.     Enamoured by His beauty Daksha's daughter Sati falls for The Lord and marries Him against the wish of her father, Daksha Prajapathi. Revengeful and full of feud Daksha arranges for a grand Yajna, purposely avoiding Lord Shiva and Sati. Snubbed by her father and treated with disdain, Sati was nonetheless calm, continuously pleading all and sundry for the honour of her husband.     On seeing the shameless insult to her husband in His absence, and the repeated slights King Daksha and his courtiers railed at Shiva, she leaves her mortal frame, grieving for her Beloved Lord.     The story reaches its climax with Lord Shiva making His grant entry, dancing into the Yajna Hall, full of fury and fire, dancing to annihilate Daksha.     Terrified and with remorse the others propitiates Lord Shiva and begging for His mercy to restore Daksha's life and to allow the sacrifice to be completed. She becomes calm, thus restoring Daksha back to life…     Compiling the story-line together, the presentation was interspersed with commentary, Shiva Strotrams, Veda chanting in the backdrop with Lord Nataraja dancing His steps in the middle.     Bhajans continued and ended with Mangala Arathi at 1800 hrs." Tomorrow, on the auspicious Shivarathri Day, students from SSSIHL would sing special strotrams at 0830 hrs. after half-an-hour Veda chanting in the morning. In the evening, Rudra Abhishekam to Sayeeshwara Lingam of Ati Rudra Maha Yajna – 2006 would be offered, commencing at 1630 hrs., after half-an-hour Veda chanting. At 1745 hrs., Bhagawan's Divine discourse would be aired that would be followed by the commencement of Night-long Vigil of Singing paeans to Lord Shiva. II Samastha Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu II

Shivarathri makes one aware of the fact that the same Divinity is all-pervasive and is to be found everywhere. It is said that Shiva lives in Kailasa. But where is Kailasa? Kailasa is our own joy and bliss. It means that the Lord lives in the Kailasa of joy, bliss and delight. If you can develop that sense of joy and delight in our mind, then your heart itself is the Kailasa where Shiva lives. How can one get this joy? Joy comes and stays with you when you develop purity, steadiness and sacredness. There is no use in observing Shivarathri once a year. Every minute, every day, every night, you should think of Divinity and sanctify your time, for the Time Principle itself is Shiva. - Sri Sathya Sai Baba     Date: Saturday, March 09, 2013 Yesterday's thought If there is a boil on the body, we put some ointment on it and cover it with a bandage until the whole wound heals. If you do not apply the ointment and tie a bandage around this boil, it is likely to become septic and can cause greater harm later on. Now and then we will have to clean it with water, apply the ointment again and put on a new bandage. In the same way, in our life, there is this boil which has come up in our body in the form of 'I, I, I..'. If you want to really cure this boil, you will have to wash it every day with the waters of love, apply the ointment of faith on it and tie the bandage of humility around it.
