THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
An old grandfather of seventy was asked by his seven-year old grandchild, "Grandpa! How old are you?" and the old man replied, "Two!" The child was struck with wonder and looked a picture of doubt. The old man replied, "I have spent only the last two years in the company of the Lord, until then I was plunged in the marshland of pleasure seeking." Only the years that you have lived with the Lord have to be counted as life, the rest are not worth counting. Know that all this wealth, property and fame are but for a fleeting moment. Develop attachment for the Lord, who will be with you wherever you go.

Yesterday's thought
Engage yourself in spiritual discipline, spiritual thoughts, and spiritual company. Forget the past and let it go its way. At least from now on be determined to save yourself. Never yield to doubt or unsteadiness. Have faith in any one Name and Form that appeals to you. If you revere one form of God and hate another, the net result is zero. God will not tolerate the slightest hatred of any Name or Form. Avoid factions, quarrelling, scorning and fault-finding, as they reveal your ignorance and actually recoil on you. You find fault in others, because you have the same faults in you. If you throw contempt at the form of God that another reveres, the contempt falls on your own God. Remember, everyone is a pilgrim towards the same goal. Some take one route, others take another.

Yesterday's thought
Scriptures are only road-maps; at best they are guide-books that give directions for the destination. It is the actual journey that will reveal the hardships, the delays, the land-slips, the potholes as well as the beauty of the scenic route on the way, and the magnificence of the destination. No secondhand account can equal the firsthand experience! The symbols on the map are interpreted differently by different scholars according to their preconceived notions, predilections and pet theories. If you acquire Love, then you can dispense with the Scriptures; for the purpose of all the Scriptures is just that: to create the feeling of Sarvajana samaana prema (equal love for all), and to negate egoism which stands in the way. Reason too, if it comes in the way of this love, is to be discarded as 'perverted'.

Odisha Parthi Yatra…

Celebrating Parthi Yatra 2013 devotees from the east Indian state of Odisha presented a glittering devotional evening here in Prasanthi Nilayam today. Over 1500 devotees from the state are participating in the 3-day Parthi Yatra, from 26 August to 28 August 2013.

Odisha Parthi Yatra…

Invoking The Lord with a musical piece, after regular Vedam chanting, the first programme to follow was 'Chhau Dance' entitled 'Garuda Vahan' by the Balvikas of Mayurbhanj district. The presentation was based on the mythological theme depicting Garuda's celestial adventurous journey in search of Divine Nectar (Amrita) to appease the serpants of Neitherworld (Patala) to rescue his mother who was under captivity.

Odisha Parthi Yatra…

Legend has it that Garuda, on hearing of his mother's imprisonment, descended to Patala requesting the serpants to release his mother Vinata. The serpants agreed under one condition that as ransom a cup of Amrita be given in exchange. Garunda set off after receiving mother's blessings, taking up an arduous, but insurmountable journey. Finally, after overcoming all obstacles, including the challenge posed by Indra, Garuda came victorious only to get the release of his mother.

Odisha Parthi Yatra…

Originally belonged to the tribals of North East Odisha, the tribal art form 'Chhau Dance' got its revival with Mayurbhanj adopting it with renewed pattern. Also known as 'Chhau Nruthya' the dance form has been enriched itself  to be categorised as a classical dance.

Next to come was the legendary devotional piece  Jagannath Ashtakam, composed by Adi Shankara singing paens to Lord Jagannath, the Prime Deity at Jagannath Temple, Puri. Sai Symphony troupe of the State presented it, singing in traditional style, with much devotional fervour, interspersed with commentary explaining the poetic verse.

Odisha Parthi Yatra…

Presenting a programme entitled "A Journey Within" the troupe then sang three special songs, namely Shiva Shankara Shivanada Lahari…, Mana Brindavan Soona Laagey…, Sathya Ki Raah Dikhaane Vaaley… etc. followed by bhajans. All the participants were presented with special gifts and Prasadam was distributed to the entire assemblage before Mangala Arathi offering at 1835 hrs.

Odisha Parthi Yatra…

Earlier, the programme commenced with an introductory speech by Sri P.Jagannath Prasad Rao, State President of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, Odisha detailing various service activities undertaken by the State Unit of Sathya Sai Organisations.
As part of the Parthi Yatra, the State unit has also organised two more programmes, an exhibition entitled Prajna Pradarshani, an educative and inspiratioinal tour, at the double-decker auditorium next the Book Trust building and a Maha Rudram at the open space near Shed No.1 in Prasanthi Nilayam.
The Prajna Exhibition is a fine blend of spirituality and science exploring the beauty of Bharat's ancient Vedic culture showcasing how 'Vedas' serve to find solution to insurmountable problems of mankind today. The exhibition also features special sections for children teaching them how to learn from nature, plants, birds and animals, a detailed section on Sathya Sai Suprabhatam, a section on various Sathya Sai Projects in the state etc.

Implicitly obeying the Divine Command from Bhagawan, given to the youth in 2010, precisely on 26th August 2010 during the Parthi Yatra, Vedic wave was resonating throughout the state with great momentum, ever since. Covering 35 districts, 1500 Rudrapithams and 15 Maha Rudrams were conducted since its inception after receiving the Divine command in 2010.
Commemorating the joyous occasion of the Divine Command a Maha Rudram was organised this forenoon at the open space near Shed No.1 in Prasanthi Nilayam attended by hundreds and thousands of devotees. 121 youth ladies were engaged in chanting the holy incantation ably supported by large number of devotees. Bhajans continued that was followed by an inspiring speech by Sri Vedanarayanan, faculty at Sri Sathya Sai Higher Secondary School, Prasanthi Nilayam, entailing the significance of Vedam. A brief speech by the State President of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations followed before Mangala Arathi at 1450 hrs.

Sri Krishna Janmashtami…

Prasanthi Nilayam celebrated the Advent of Bhagawan Sri Krishna today, 28 August 2013, in Bhagawan's Divine omnipresence, marked with Musical Presentation, Gokulam Procession of quadrupeds and birds.

The programme commenced at 0820 hrs. after 20 mts. of Rudram chanting with the percussion band of the Institute playing some soulful music. An array of well conceived songs, Kirtans followed next, singing Madhurashtakam, Bhaja Govindam, Oh Sai Maa…ending up with  Krishnashtakam.

It was time for the Gokulam Procession to enter in…Even as the Kirtans made way to Bhajans, the colourful procession of quadrupeds and birds from Sri Sathya Sai Gokulam arrived at the Mandir escorted by the Nadaswaram and Vedam troupes from the Institute. The quadrupeds included cows and calves, deers, rabbits, peacocks, doves and the canine 'Jolly' from Senior Hostel. The cows had been covered with newly made embroidered, multi‑coloured silk duppattas, and were led by batches of students.

Senior administrators of Ashram, including Trust Members and Secretary of Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, fed the animals and birds as part of the Go-Puja, a tradition set by Bhagawan.  At the end Mangala Arathi was offered to Bhagawan indwelling in these living beings.

Bhajans gave away once again to special musical offering, this time singing specialized Krishna songs including a couple of Meera Bhajans and a scintillating Carnatic piece, BalaMukundam Manasa Smaraami…sung with great elan.

Bhajans continued and ended with Mangala Arathi at 0950 hrs. Prasadam was distributed to the entire assemblage.

Yesterday's thought
Thirst for Krishna, to see Him, to hear Him, to listen to His Flute, for installing Him in the heart and mind, and for grasping His reality through the intellect - this thirst is most conducive to peace and joy. Devotion to Krishna is the chain by which the monkey mind can be fastened and subdued. The word Krish means to attract (as in aakarshana). Lord Krishna attracts your mind towards Him and turns them away from sensory desires that torment you. He satisfies the deepest thirst of all beings, for peace, joy and wisdom. Hence thirst for Krishna is a sign of health in the spiritual field. Repetition of the name Krishna is useless, unless the contemplation of the Glory of Krishna starts purifying your character. The Grace of the Lord is very powerful and is endowed on the deserving alone. Hence begin today to sublimate your character saturated with piety and devotion. Then you will secure the Grace of the Lord.
