Ganesha Idol Installed… Prasanthi Nilayam

The Lord Who wrote a Divine Treatise on Meditation, titled Dhyana Vahini, with His Divine Fore vision had planted a small sapling on the idyllic hillock at the eastern side of Prasanthi Mandir five decades ago, precisely on the 29th June 1959. Bhagawan then declared that Yogis who have reached a certain stage of spiritual progress will automatically come to know of this tree and the mystic plate of inscription, materialized by Him on the Chitravati banks, and they will be drawn by the mysterious force of these toward the meditation grove which will then fully justify its name! This epochal Meditation Tree turned 53 today.

Commemorating the occasion, a function was held atop the Hill, in the Meditation Grove this morning, attended by Senior Trust Members, officials, students and devotees.
With the special ritualistic offering commenced and continued close to 0930 hrs. in the morning, a steady stream of devotees arrived post Bhajans and Mangala Arathi in the Mandir, comfortably occupying slots at various vantage points upon the hill behind the grove, and the area around, watching the proceedings.

After the special 'Vruksha Puja' even as Veda chanting by the officiating priest continued, students chanted Sai Ashtotharam that was followed by Arathi to the Tree. Three Bhajans followed, that began specially invoking Bhagawan with the particular Ashtothara Namavali referring Him to 'Vatavriksha Pratishtapaka', One Who planted the Meditation Tree. The programme culminated with Mangala Arathi at 10:30 hrs. Prasadam was distributed to the entire assembly.
As part of the developmental plan, the first phase of facelift of this grove has been completed. Fenced around with lighting poles, the grove now has a tiled circular space around where devotees can sit and meditate, at ease. Tiled steps have been laid, leading to the grove from the road, and facilitating wheel-chaired as well aged devotees, a tiled ramp has also been provided leading to the grove.

Ganesha Idol Installed…
Friday, June 29th, 2012
Earlier, in an another auspicious function held in the morning, the Gopuram gate entrance got an enhancement par excellence when a statue of Lord Ganesha was installed this morning welcoming the devotees to Prasanthi Nilayam.  The rituals started at 1900 hrs. last evening, the 28th of June 2012. After the Kalasa Stapana, a variety of Homams including the Sthala Shudhi Homam, Navagraha Homam, Ganapathi Homam etc., were performed. The idol and the kalasa which will adorn the top of the shrine were then immersed in sacred water before being installed in their sanctified positions. At 0530 hrs., to the sounds of Panchavadyam and Vedic invocations, the veil was removed and devotees assembled were advised  to have Darshan of the Lord through a mirror placed in front of the shrine before looking at the idol directly.

The Poornahuti of the homams performed the previous day was then conducted with all auspiciousness. The event was then paused as the the nagarasankirtan passed by sanctifying the atmosphere with the most powerful energy, the sound of the Divine Name.

The ritwiks then consecrated the Kalasam with worship and ablutions before shifting their attentions to the Master of the Mind Who sits atop the restless senses whose effect He has reduced to the size of a mouse. The Elephant Faced One, the Rider of the mouse Mushika, the Remover of Obstacles, the Auspicious One who is always worshipped first, Lord Ganesha was then lovingly bathed in a variety of traditional items including milk, honey, fruits, tender coconut and so on before being adorned with floral garlands, sandal and vermilion. As part of the ritual, Go Puja was done to a pair of cow and calf  brought from Sri Sathya Sai Gokulam.

Mangala Arati was then offered to the most beautiful form. One could not but recollect the various festivals, functions, events and even simple loving interactions that this particular form has witnessed when placed in the Sai Kulwant Hall, adorning the backdrop of the Seat Of The Divine!
Prasadam including Sweet Pongal and modak were offered to all assembled on the occasion.
Later, in the morning at around 0815 hrs., a new exit gate next to the existing Ganesh gate, opposite Chitravati Road, was inaugurated for the convenience of devotees who exit Ashram by foot. The short ceremony was marked with lighting the lamp and breaking of coconuts.

In the evening, announcement was made on the Ashadi Ekadashi programme, scheduled for tomorrow morning. The Dindi procession will march into the Sai Kulwant Hall at 8:20 am that will be followed by a Dance offering, depicting Ganapathi by the Nasik group of devotees. A dance drama entitled "Master The Mind, Be A Mastermind" will follow next, staged by the Youth of Mumbai. In the evening Sri Geet Sagar & Team will offering at Bhagawan's Lotus Feet.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
A tree is justified by fragrant flowers bringing forth sweet fruits. If on the other hand, its leaves dry, flowers fade and the fruits refuse to grow, the farmer will examine the roots and discover that they are eaten up by pests. So too, if virtues do not blossom and yield sweet fruits in you, then the roots of Divinity might have been destroyed or harmed. Envy, greed, malice, etc. are the pests that rapidly destroy the roots. All of you are near and dear to the Lord; only you must have the staunch determination to realize Him. Welcome hardships, trials and sufferings. Dwell on the Name of the Lord which is dear to you, steadily and with faith. Discard all inferior sources of joy. Know that the Lord is the spring of joy in every heart. When you repeat the Name of the Lord with a pure heart, He will fill you with bliss and joy.

Krishna has said in the Geetha that 'Om' has to be remembered at the moment of death. But when the mind is flitting from one fancy to another, how can the production of a sound 'Om, Om..' by the vocal organs be of any benefit? The mere sound will not help you attain liberation. The senses have to be curbed, thoughts have to be one-pointed and the divine glory has to be apprehended. If you postpone sadhana (spiritual practices) till the last moment, you will be like the student who turns over the pages of his textbook for the first time, just before entering the examination hall! If the student has neglected to learn from the teacher, lecture-notes and books, how can anything enter his head on that morning? It will only add to the student's despair. That is why the Lord advised that one must start early in the search for truth.

For food to taste good, you need to add salt to it. But only when you place a morsel of the food on your tongue you get to know if it has enough salt in it or not. So too only when you have moved about in the world and participated in its activities abiding by a moral code, you discover that, without the salt of jnana (wisdom), it does not taste good; if you take it with a pinch of this salt - the knowledge that you are not the body but the Indweller, that you are but the witness of the ever-changing panorama of Nature - then you will be happy and peaceful.

Meditation Tree turns 53 tomorrow…

With Ashadi and Guru Purnima coming up in the next week, on 30th June and 3rd July respectively, the epochal and Spiritually Potent Meditation Tree, planted by the Divine Hands on 29th June 1959 is turning 53 tomorrow, June 29, 2012, and a function is being organized commemorating the special occasion. As a part of the developmental plan, a facelift is being given to the "Tapovanam', first phase of which is completed,  to facilitate devotees visiting the place for spiritual evolution.
As per the programme chart, the 45-minute programme would commence at 0945 hrs. with rituals propitiating Lord Ganesha followed by Punyaha Vachana, Circumambulation of the Tree, Recitation of Sai Ashtotharam, Special Ritual called "Vriksha Puja", Bhajan, Meditation followed by Mangala Arathi and prasadam distribution.
Mentioning the significance of the Meditation Tree, Prof. Kasturi wrote in Sathyam Sivam Sundaram thus:
The Banyan that is growing in the grove has a peculiar sanctity of its own. In April of 1959, while talking one evening on the sands of the Chitravathi River to a gathering of devotees, Baba spoke of Buddha and the Bodhi tree, the "Tree of Wisdom," and of the Sadhakas (spiritual aspirants) seeking some specially favorable spots for their austerities. Even as He was speaking thus, He "took" out from the sands a thick copper plate about fifteen inches by ten inches in size which contained mystic markings and letters of many known and unknown alphabets! He said that such mystic plates, cryptograms written on copper or stone, are planted under trees where aspirants engage in austerities so that they may be helped to develop concentration of mind and control of the senses. He announced that He would be placing the copper plate under a Banyan tree that He proposed to plant in the grove. This was actually done on the twenty-ninth of June, 1959, and Sai Baba declared that Yogis who have reached a certain stage of spiritual progress will automatically come to know of this tree and this mystic plate, and they will be drawn by the mysterious force of these toward the meditation grove which will then fully justify its name!
…And here comes the Spiritual Significance of the Tree, in Prof. Kasturi's own words:
The Banyan tree, known as Nyagrodha, "down-grown," and Vatavriksha, "enclosure tree," is famous in Indian sacred literature and history. Lord Maha Vishnu, the great God of Preservation, or Siva, God in the Form of the Guru, is described as sitting under a Banyan tree, and expounding by His very silence all knowledge to His disciple. This tree may be said to symbolize Sanathana Dharma, the Eternal Wisdom, for its branches reach out in all directions and draw sustenance from every type of faith and spiritual striving. It is also called Rahupada, "many-footed" in Sanskrit, for the series of roots that its branches send down toward the earth strike the ground and seek food therein and make the branches independent even of the parent trunk. The tree is therefore immortal. There are in India Banyan trees that have been worshipped for thousands of years, such as the one at Triveni at Prayag, Allahabad, or the one called Akshaya-vat, the "Indestructible," at Gaya.

In the meantime, a steady stream of devotees is expected in the coming days as the Dindi Procession , from Dharmavaram to Prasanthi Nilayam, is expected to arrive tomorrow evening.  With Ashadi Ekadashi scheduled for Saturday, 30th June, hundreds of devotees are expected to join the Dindi Yatris, with the States, Maharashtra and Goa are set to celebrate the occasion in the immediate Divine Presence.
The Dindi Procession is symbolic of the time tested tradition – Vaarkari Sampradaya – dates back to centuries. Every year lakhs and lakhs of devotees walk on foot in huge processions to Pandharpur, the Abode of Lord Vittala singing abhangas of Sant Thukkaram and Sant Jnaneshwar to have the darshan of their chosen deity.

The Divinity in each one prompts one to stick to truth and to the moral code; you only have to listen, obey and get saved. Few hear it the moment it whispers; some listen only when it protests loudly; others are deaf; and there are also some who are determined not to hear it. But all have to be guided by it, sooner or later. Some may ascend a plane, others may travel by car or board a bus; yet others may prefer a train journey, and there could be some who may like to trudge along - but all must reach the goal, some day or other. The sea of samsaara (worldly life) has to be crossed and all its waves transcended, with the help of the Divine Name. If you seek to know the highest and secure the award of the Lord, there can be no place for doubt. The heart should be set on achieving the task of realising the Lord within you as the Motivator.
