THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
In the Geetha when Arjuna posed the question, "What exactly is the benefit of attaining You?" Krishna smiled and replied, "Arjuna! What greater benefit is there than attaining union with God? This holy victory makes one a Mahatma. While a normal person is established in body consciousness, and is tossed about every day by joy and grief, the Mahatmas are free from all dual experiences and are ever joyful. They are above and beyond. They are pure in heart and have no further birth and death. They have released themselves from identity with the particularised; they become the Universal, Eternal, Changeless. They are neither dull nor driven about by desire. They are unaffected by attachment or hate."

Janmashtami is the sacred day which marks the auspicious arrival of the Advent of the Formless, Nameless, and Timeless Absolute into a Living and Loving Form. The Divine appeared as Krishna to charm humanity through His pranks, His play, His song and sweetness and to instruct mankind through His teachings and grace. What one has to do on this auspicious day is to dwell on the elevating thoughts centering round the Lord in this form and take the first or further steps in the spiritual path. Use such sacred days as starting points for propitiating the Form of Godhead which you have chosen for offering homage, the Form which appeals to your innermost yearnings. Do not ascribe evil to any day. Every day is good when you spend it for God. Every star is good, provided its light guides your feet to God. This is My advice to you, this day.

Sri Krishna Janmashtami evening  in Prasanthi Nilayam
Friday, August 10th, 2012
Devotees from Visakhapatanam district of Andhra Pradesh staged a Musical Dance Drama entitled "Sai Krishnaya Charanam Namo Namah" on this Sri Krishna Janmashtami evening here in Prasanthi Nilayam.

At the outset, the district president of SSSSO, Visakhapatanam gave an overview of the activities of the Organisation in the district. The presentation was based on the theme, drawing similarities between the two Avatars, Bhagawan Sri Krishna and Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai. Interspersed with colourful dances by children, elucidating on the glory of both the Avatars, the presentation illustrated wondrous tales from Bhagawan's Avataric life, as to how devotees have been saved from dire life-threatening situations, most miraculously.

The presentation came to a close with a beautiful dance at 1800 hrs. Entire cast of the presentation were felicitated with special gifts and Prasadam was distributed to the entire audience. Bhajans continued and the session came to a close at 1815 hrs. with Mangala Arathi.

Tomorrow evening, on the second day of their Parthi Yatra, devotees from Visakhapatanam will offer a musical bouquet, entitled Sri Sathya Sai Sangeeta Sudha. This evening the district is taking out a huge procession, Maha Nagasankirtan, outside the Prasanthi Nilayam precincts, singing glories of Bhagawan.

Prasanthi Sings Paens Of Lord Krishna…

Friday, August 10th, 2012
Holy hymns singing paens of Lord Krishna along with a colourful procession of quadrupeds from Sri Sathya Sai Gokulam marked the auspicious Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations here in Prasanthi Nilayam this morning.

The programme commenced at 0830 hrs., after half-an-hour Veda chanting, with students singing Madhurashtakam composed by Vallabhacharya followed by Achyuthashtakam by Shankaracharya. Other songs were Gana Sundara Karuna Rasa Mandira, Mohana Murali…., both often heard numbers from Prasanthi, Manasa Sancharare by Thyagaraja, , Chandana Charchita Neelakalebhara in Malayalam ending with a Hindi devotional invoking Bhagawan.

Even as the songs continued, the colourful procession of quadrupeds and birds from Sri Sathya Sai Gokulam arrived at the Mandir escorted by the Nadaswaram troupe from the Institute. The quadrupeds included cows and calves, deers, rabbits, peacocks, doves and the canine 'Jolly' from Senior Hostel.

Senior administrators of Ashram, including Trust Members and Secretary of Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, fed the animals and birds, a tradition set by Bhagawan, before Mangala Arathi was offered to them.

Bhagawan's Divine Discourse followed next. The discourse was centred around Radharani's complete surrender marked with unsullied devotions towards Lord Krishna leading to Bhagawan's final Flute-Play.

Bhagawan continued with His lucid narration, recounting His days in Dwapara, singing the melody "Pata Paduma Krishna …" and the devoted assembly sat in silent devotion recapturing live memories of Bhagawan's physical presence in the same venue, discoursing and singing on many such occasions. Krishna Principle is verily Love Principle, echoed Bhagawan exhorting the audience to live in love, praying for the welfare of all the worlds. Bhagawan ended His Divine discourse with the bhajan Govinda Krishna Jai…

With bhajans continuing, primary children offered greeting offerings at the Sanctum Sactorum followed by a set of  senior students, carrying quadrupeds and birds, namely deers, white doves, rabbits, peacocks and the hostel canine Jolly, seeking blessings. The white doves were released subsequently symbolising peace unto the world. Prasadam was distributed to the entire assemblage before Mangala Arathi offering at 1005 hrs.

The Universe is saturated with Divinity; there is nothing here which is not Divine. Always remember that God is the Base as well as the Superstructure, the inner motive and the outer movement. The body is the temple of the Lord; the atmosphere of this temple is by its very nature filled with love for all beings. The scriptures clearly declare that this understanding can be achieved through performing one's duty, and then worshipping the Lord by dedicating to Him this duty. One's intelligence is cleared of the dust of doubt and delusion, through dutifulness and dedication.

The Lord does not ask you for penance or asceticism. He only wants that your mind be fixed on Him. Devote and dedicate your mind to God. If you plead that you have not the strength of mind to do this, ask yourself, where from comes the strength to dedicate yourself as you do now to hollow ideals and vain fantasies of family, fortune and fame? Can you not use this strength for that supreme dedication? People easily offer their all to poisonous objective pleasures, but squirm and protest when the call is made to dedicate their thoughts, feelings and acts to the Almighty! Those who are prompted by genuine desire for the fruit must overcome all obstacles and temptations, doubts and disappointments, and dwell on the thoughts of the Lord. Then the Lord will confer on you the blessing of Union.
