"Prema Vahini", a Musical Dance Drama - Cultural Programme by Andhra Pradesh Youth
The year that has gone by witnessed a number of Youth Programmes by various states and even contingents from overseas. Sathya Sai Seva Organisations persistent effort to motivate the youth in India and overseas was with the vision to make every youth an Ideal Sai Youth, Messengers of Sai Love to help light the lamp of love in the heart of humanity, to help awaken the Divinity inherent in humankind and to bring the world together as one family under the Fatherhood of God. Picking the cue from the motivation received from the previous years, the surge seemed to be on as the youth from the state of Andhra Pradesh organized a three day pilgrimage to the valley of peace, bringing a maximum percentage of fresh faces, initiating them into the fraternity to become an Ideal Sai Youth and thus becoming worthy instruments in His Mission Divine.

More than 1,500 youth from the State of Andhra Pradesh, both men and women, all graduates were brought to Prasanthi Nilayam on a three-day pilgrimage starting from 18th June 2009, under the auspices of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, Andhra Pradesh. Aptly titled "Prema Vahini", a musical drama, was on the central theme of Bhagawan's all conquering love for humanity. At the outset, the cast of the drama offered their obeisance to Bhagawan and a few lady youth members welcomed the Lord offering traditional Poornakumbham. The programme commenced with Bhagawan lighting the lamp on the dais.

It was during the year Sarvajith, Ugadi 2007 that Bhagawan had spoken of a new initiative, a project for village integration, by name, Sri Sathya Sai Village Integration Programme. Speaking on the greater importance of village integration, and the plight of the villages in India, Bhagawan had urged on the necessity for permanent solutions.

"Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization should strive towards resolving long standing problems in villages. They should provide minimum necessities like education, medical services, and supply of basic amenities like water. The service activities conducted by the organization should aim towards eradicating problems from the root to provide permanent solutions to the village hence contributing to the progress of the nation".

Picking the right notes from His message, the enthusiastic Youth from the state of Andhra Pradesh embarked on various service activities in the villages in line with His instructions and teachings.

The programme began with a declaration by the youth that, "Prema Vahini" was not a figment of imagination; rather it was based on real life incidents and the cast were real grama seva heroes who went into the depths of the problems of the villagers serving them with responsibility knowing well the burden, the accountability of the Badge of Sathya Sai Seva Organisations. The villages, especially Satropalam and Giripuram in Krishna district had been suffering from acute scarcity of drinking water, owing to the presence of saline content. A desalination plant, costing Rs. 15 lakh was commissioned by the state Sri Sathya Sai Organisations solving the misery of drinking water scarcity. Similarly, in some areas of Prakasam district where water fetching facility was not available, construction of water tanks was undertaken by the organization sending the 'elixir divine' to the poor hapless villagers. More than eighty houses were constructed, replacing the old model thatched huts with pucca RCC construction providing shelter to the needy. Schools were also constructed in some areas of the districts guiding the young wards to the world of knowledge. The presentation, a medley of different scenes, was weaved compiling the inspirational stories based on the above service activities, adding scenes from the villages, from the illustrious life of Young Sathya Sai disseminating the essential message of Bhagawan's unbounded love for humanity and the need to practise His often quoted maxim, "Love all Serve all".

The scene opens with three youth expressing their aspirations to Sarathi, an educated person of leading an affluent and extravagant life. Sarathi who leads a simple life in the village serving the villagers, with his lofty views, prevails upon the three youth to take to the path of service, claiming that Bhagawan has rendered yeoman and selfless service to humanity; one has to emulate Bhagawan in this respect.

In the next scene, little Sathya on hearing the cries of a poor man rushes to him with food. When His mother notices his soiled clothes and asks the reason for it, He tells her that He was helping the villagers by carrying water on His shoulders, suspending two pots on a wooden rod on both the ends. The mother seeing the fame of Little Sathya and hearing people say that He is God, gets worried as to whether He would leave Puttaparthi. Then Sathya promises his mother that he would never leave Puttaparthi.

The three youth resolve to do Grama Seva. Viswanatham, a pious person prays sincerely to Bhagawan for the well-being of the villagers. The villagers have to trudge 6 kms to get water and have to go far-off distances for schooling. They do not have access to good healthcare. Viswanatham has a noble vision to convert salty water into potable water. The scene ends with Viswanatham praying to Bhagawan for providing villagers with adequate amenities.

The drama was punctuated with songs and dances adding glitter to the presentation. In this scene, there is a talk of the desalination plant. Bhagawan is building houses for the cyclone devastated victims of Orissa; He sent relief material to the earthquake affected victims of Gujarat: He has provided drinking water to the city of Chennai. Somebody opines that a desalination plant would cost a lot and pat comes the reply from another that if there is a noble intention, there will be no shortage of financial resources.

The next scene depicts a Sai Youth helping a villager to carry drinking water. They even assure the villagers that they would help in providing drinking water right at their doorstep. The youth tell the villagers that Baba has sent them to construct permanent houses for them. The villagers express their doubt as to how they would bring construction material to this hilly terrain. By Bhagawan's grace, desalination plant becomes operational and the villagers get drinking water right at their doorstep. The villagers shed tears of joy and ask the youth as to how they could repay the debt to Bhagawan for all His help. A youth tells them that they need to give up their evil qualities by chanting Sai Ram. That is enough gratitude for Bhagawan.

The cast got a coveted opportunity of being photographed with Bhagawn who chose to climb down the aisle blessing the participants. After the distribution of clothes and watches to the cast numbering over 100, prasadam was distributed to the devout congregation. The little girl who cast young Sathya won special accolade from Bhagawan blessing her with a bracelet. Adding a touch of His omnipresence, Bhagawan, before materializing the same told the little one that He would give her a bracelet as her father would be happy who had lost one. A long spell of bhajans by the Youth group followed until Arathi was offered at 7.15 p.m.
A long session, worthy to take note and emulate! Prasanthi continues to emit the spark of spirit of service to the mankind as is exemplified by Bhagawan through His illustrious life, that He lives as 'His Life as His Message'!

Cultural Programme by Children from Gujarat

"Ganesh Vandanam", a dance and "Samastha Lokaaha Sukhino Bhavanthu", a skit

"Ganesh Vandanam", a dance and "Samastha Lokaaha Sukhino Bhavanthu", a skit
June 18, 2009

With the fresh season in Prasanthi already had its maiden cultural programme last week in the form of a traditional folklore of Andhra Pradesh, Burra Katha, dedicated to the Pristine Mother, Easwaramma, this week had its stake, as the first group of Parthi Yatra, showed up from Gujarat.

A contingent of over hundred students was brought from the twin schools in Gujarat, Sri Sathya Sai Vidyaniketan, Navsari and from Sri Sathya Sai School, Surat and they put up a scintillating display of dissemination of the Voice of the Avatar of the age in the form of a dance drama, aptly titled "Samastha Lokaaha Sukhino Bhavanthu" followed by "Yoga for Liberation" a skit on the greater significance of Yoga in daily life.

The widely accepted universal mantra, "Lokah Samasthah Sukhino Bhavanthu" got a twist almost a year ago when Bhagawan advised the students to chant it with a wider universal appeal, modifying the same to "Samastha Lokaaha Sukhino Bhavanthu" and ever since, this has been the Universal Mantra for the Sai fraternity all over the globe.

Striking the right chord from the Divine enunciation, the tiny tots from the Sri Sathya Sai Vidyaniketan put up a display, aptly sending the message that a broader universal vision alone would bring peace on to human hearts which has become a rarity in these days.

Imagine Love and Peace in individual existence discussing the endangered status with reference to their survival in a world controlled by the men of odd passion living in this modern age. This was exactly the opening scene where the two 'individualized' entities discussing the plight of the modern world wherein people have forgotten the importance of basic values of human life. And aiming at finding a solution, an international conference was organized wherein experts from various faiths and professions have taken part airing their views. The folly came to the fore with every individual who has established in the society with excellence in their own area of expertise brought up individualized narrowed vision, failing to foresee the core issue plaguing the society. As the discussion got heated up, there came a mere school teacher donned in pristine white addressing the core issue that had been eluding the intellectual panel. His solution was so simple, an adage from Bhagawan, that tells to fill every individual heart with Love. Man instead of changing himself, is attempting to change the world and there lays the core issue resulting in eluding Love and Peace; man should understand the tenet that individual peace depends on the peace of the entire world; it is with the fore-vision and universal outlook alone that man can attain real peace.

Every tale has a moral and every moral has a source. The enigma that deluded the intellectual panel had its solution finally in the form of a mere school teacher whose knowledge in turn had its origin from his master and guru Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. The drama ended with the wise men's panel, after solving the conundrum, submitting at the Divine Lotus Feet of Bhagawan taking a pledge to remain committed to be holders of Dharmasthaapana. These young wards from Sri Sathya Sai Vidyanikeiketan, Navsari indeed had the greater message for the evening that made one and all feel the much needed pulse for a universal vision.

"Yoga For Salvation", a skit
June 18, 2009

Bhagawan says body is the temple of God and one has to give due respect and care in maintaining this temple. Every individual dreams of living a long and healthy life and we have the wherewithal in the form of Maharishi's Patanjali's Ashtanga Yoga, as was propagated in the 7th century.

The evening's final presentation had this unusual theme, the greater significance and intricacies of Yoga Sutra. It would be a dream happening, if Patanjali himself appeared teaching someone these greater intricacies, explaining in lucid details. This was the great good fortune of young Rohan who was initiated in to Yoga Sutra by the great sage in a dreamy sequence as per the directive of Bhagawan Himself.

Yoga for Salvation, a musical skit, was a power packed demonstration of various aasanas and pranayamas tagged with detailed explanations. Patanjali's eight fold path of Ashtanga Yoga not only ensures a sound mind in a sound body but ensures liberation itself! Bhagawan says, "If there is any kind of strain on any part of the body, it will not be possible to receive divine energy". The first four steps of Patanjali's Ashtanga Yoga namely, Yama, Niyama, Asana and Pranayama relate to external Yoga, then come Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and ultimately Samadhi, the state of supreme bliss having merged with the Divine.

This was an apt demonstration of bending and mending, demonstrating the most ancient and most efficient path for salvation, by a bunch of students from Sri Sathya Sai School of Surat, who practice Yoga and Meditation devoutly with meticulous attention and rigorous discipline. "Unity of Faiths" and the theme of National Integration were also demonstrated through various yogic postures allied with formations rightly sending the message of SAIYOG, the Yoga for the present age.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. When you fill your heart with Love, the Divine heart melts resulting in God manifestation in human form. Lighter moments of Bhagawan and with Bhagawan are something that everyone cherishes to posses. Be it a lighter moment or a serious advice, everything Bhagawan does have potential significance and is suffused with wisdom galore. Towards the end of the one hour long session, these tiny tots, the school children from Gujarat had the good fortune to witness their Beloved Swami beaming with joy reciprocating to their action. The first occasion was when the main character, Rahul, in tune with his mother's claim that her just single prayer to Bhagawan was heard by Him granting her son initiation into Yoga Sutra, an ebullient Rahul, in all excitement prayed to Bhagawan that once he finished his schooling he should be granted admission into Swami's college and Bhagawan broke into laughter, beaming with joy, raising his Abhayahastha as if showing a nod of approval. Yet another occasion when the participants laid a red carpet, strewn with rose petals, for Bhagawan to come down the aisle, for a coveted group session with them. After setting themselves to receive the Lord, most unexpectedly they called out with a unanimous appeal, "Swami, please come" and again he broke into laughter consenting to climb down the aisle. Both boys and girls were blessed with separate group photo sessions, and safari peaces and sarees respectively.

This was followed by a short stint of bhajans, first by the contingent followed by students from the university before arathi was offered to Bhagawan. Prasadam was distributed before Bhagawan retired to Yajur Mandiram. A wonderful evening that echoed the universal message "Samastha Lokaaha Sukhino Bhavanthu" exhorting one and all to expand their vision joining hands in His Mission Divine!

"Everyday is a festival in Prashanti Nilayam," said someone during the peak of the 'programme season' when as many as 15 programmes were put up in a single month. That statement held good even during the first tens days of June, in spite of there being no single programme put up in the Mandir; the days were special in their own inimitable way. There weren't any festoons, backdrops, costumes and the other paraphernalia, which are usually associated with festivals. But the festivities came in the guise of more than 5000 people, who had gathered with devotion and Love for God to sing His praises. It indeed was festival time as that's what had been happening at the Prasanthi Nilayam everyday since the beginning of the new academic year. Here is the description of one typical day of the past one week.

On June 10, 2009, Swami arrived just as the first bhajan had begun. The ladies' side and the gents' side were both almost full. It is so interesting the way people think and arrive at Puttaparthi. During the major festivals and the pilgrimage visits by devotees from the many Indian states and countries, the hall becomes full because of the sheer number of devotees that arrive. And during the "non-peak" days, news quickly travels that the Mandir is sparsely crowded and immediately devotees pour in to increase their probability of getting a close darshan. The net result - Prashanthi Nilayam is filled with devotees always!

Swami moved through the ladies side accepting letters and talking to a few of them. Moving into the students' section, He faced a multitude of letters. A gentle smile seemed to come over His face. (An onlooker might even wonder as to what the students write in their letters to Him daily! But He knows every heart, and responds accordingly too!) There have been occasions when Swami has come for darshan before all the students had arrived from their places of study. On such days, the few who had arrived, rush to the rear side of the portico with their letters. Once, Swami passes that way, they move back to the front and (again) have another letter to offer to Him! One day Swami also indicated to a student and, to the merry laughter of those around, said, "You were sitting yonder. Now you have come here. You will return after I pass! Correct?" The boy sheepishly nodded a yes.

Swami collected a few letters and asked the people walking behind His chair to collect some more on His behalf. The same continued into the gents' side too. After the darshan round, Swami moved on to the stage and sat for the bhajans. As always, the bhajans gain in volume and enthusiasm with Him around. Swami looked at all the people who had assembled and granted His attention to different sections of the hall during different phases of the bhajans. Almost everyone had that cherished feeling, "He saw me and I am blessed." Sometimes, during the bhajans, people rise and leave - they either have a bus to catch, a duty/call to attend or any of the many reasons. Swami watches them leave with the same look as He watches those sitting and singing. The feeling of God being the Eternal Witness envelopes one during such moments and a silent joy surges in their beings. That feeling may culminate in a gentle smile on the Divine lips or at times with a stern look from Him and at other times with Swami going into a trance. Silently, He moulds, charges, transforms, guides, assures or commands but all the while a mass communion is on.

Swami sat for about an hour for bhajans that day. In between, it was sought from Him as to whether prasadam could be distributed. Swami told them to hold back till the aarthi. The students from the new M. Tech batch held a card for Him to see and a cake for Him to cut. Swami saw them and told them to wait. At the end of the bhajans, Swami also chanted the universal peace prayer, "Samastha Lokaha Sukhino Bhavanthu". Then, He blessed the mangoes to be distributed to all and retired for the day.

Join group saibabaofindia - "SBOI" Be a part of a growing Sai online communityThis evening, Bhagawan came for darshan around 4.30 pm. After a round of the Sai Kulwant Hall, He sat onstage listening to the Vedam chanting for a while and then went into the interview room to emerge when the five o'clock bhajans began. As the bhajans went on, prasadam was being distributed, and the heavens opened up in a downpour. Swami noticed some devotees standing outside the front gate of the hall getting drenched in the rain, and instructed that they be brought into the sheltered area and be given prasadam. At the end of the bhajan, after accepting Arati, Swami Himself went all the way up to the gate to bless those devotees. He then returned to Yajur Mandir in the chair itself.
