THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The first prerequisite for leading a spiritual life is Faith. Your faith must stand ridicule of the ignorant, caviling by the worldly, and laughter of the low-minded. When someone ridicules, ask yourself, 'Are they ridiculing my body? Well, that's fine, for, I need to escape this body attachment anyway. Are they ridiculing the Atma? That is impossible, for the Atma is beyond words or thoughts, unaffected by praise or blame.' Second: Do not worry about ups and downs, loss or gain, or joy or grief. You yourself create the ups and downs, therefore you can straighten them as well. You crave for a thing and when you get it, you call it joy; when you don't, you call it grief. Cut off craving, and there will be no more swinging from joy to grief. Third: Rationalise and be convinced of the truth that All is Divine (Sarvam Brahmamayam). Fourth and final: Be always steady in spiritual practice until you reach the goal. (Divine Discourse, May 16, 1964)

YESTERDAY'S THOUGHT
There are several, who, despite chanting the Lord's name for several hours, days and months together, did not transform themselves even one bit. The demonic nature of Ravana, Bhasmasura and Kamsa did not diminish even a little, despite their chanting of the Lord's name. What is the reason for this? All their sense organs function with the feeling: "I am the body (Aham Dehosmi)." Those who utter the name of the Lord while being immersed in body consciousness cannot realise the Divine, however long their penance may last. You are the embodiment of Divine Consciousness. Only when you are pure, you can experience that consciousness. Through attachment to worldly pleasures one gets bound to the physical and becomes oblivious to one's essential Divinity. (Divine Discourse, "My Dear Students", Vol 3, Ch 4, June 21, 1989)

YESTERDAY'S THOUGHT
Educare guides a person to be humble, it grants a sense of discrimination endowed with wisdom. Why should anyone feel proud in being educated? Ultimately isn't what he or she has attained a fraction of all learning? Never be egoistic of the knowledge you have acquired. Education is true, only when you direct it to render service to the society. Humility must be the crest jewel ornament of an educated person; it is truly the essence of education. It must reflect in our daily conduct and behavior, and should not be simply limited to occasional verbal expressions. People with humility, and obedience to parents and elders will achieve great success in their lives. Through your own words and actions, you must manifest the latent values by engaging yourselves in appropriate acts. (Divine Discourse, "My Dear Students", Vol 2, Ch 9, Jan 16, 1988)

Vishu and Tamil New Year - Prasanthi Nilyam

Celebrating Tamil New Year – Jaya, connoting Victory, Sai Youth from the State of Tamil Nadu presented a drama entitled ‘Sai World Vision’ last evening here in Prasanthi Nilayam.

Tamil New Year in Prasanthi Nilayam…

Earlier the programme commenced with a stimulating speech by one of the alumni of Sri Sathya Sai Institute Of Higher Learning, Sri Bala Ramachandran, who presented his thoughts interspersed with beautiful incidents from His Story. An accomplished bhajan singer, Sri Bala Ramachandran began with a beautiful aalaap of one his favourite bhajans connecting it well with unbouned relationship between Bhagawan and His devotees. Lamenting at his inability to see Swami when His form is absent in the physical sense, connecting famous ‘camera’ story from Kasturi Ji’s book ‘Loving God’, Sri Bala Ramachandran asserted that ‘no chair is empty’ and Swami is present everywhere.

Next to come was an invocation dance cum song presentation in Tamil by the Balvikas children from the State.

The drama SAI WORLD VISION was a depiction of the yeomen service being rendered by the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations serving humanity, following the teachings and  tenets of Beloved Bhagawan. The drama presented the story of the protagonist Venkat, a journalist by profession, who incidentally bumped into a group of Sai Youth while covering a bomb blast, thus sowing the seeds of transformation.

Constantly surrounded by negative news, Venkat was frustrated with the way things were on and had been yearning to experience something positive. This was when he accidentally met up with the Sai Youth group from Sri Sathya Sai Seva Oragnisations. Enamoured by the rare beauty of the unique service rendered by the Organisation,Venkat, when challenged by his boss for his attempt to cover the Sai Organisation as a special feature story, did not hesitate to quit his job only to make an individual attempt to come up with a documentary. Feeling a greater urge from within to spread the good news to the world at large, Venkat successfully completed his documentary, ‘Pillars Of Societal Change’, the story of Sathya Sai Seva Organisation that brings individual transformation followed by societal transformation.

Bhajans continued and ended with Mangala Arathi at 1920 hrs.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
We either think of the past or the future and ruin the present. Past is past, forget it. The past which is dead and gone, is useless. Work for your progress by living in the present, and in the moment. Future does not always bring happiness. And so far as the past is concerned, how much happiness have you experienced in it? Therefore, live happily in the present. What should we do in the present? Follow this maxim: Less luggage more comfort makes travel a pleasure. We should not worry about the past at all. Thinking about the past will not do any good to us. Therefore we should lead our life in the present and achieve all-round progress. (Divine Discourse, "My Dear Students", Vol 2, Ch 14, Aug 22, 2007)

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
When a tree sways with the wind, its branches bend and toss up and down. But the tiny bird sitting on it is not afraid? Why? Because the bird relies on its wings. Even if the branch falls down, as long as its wings are fine, it is safe. With this realization, the bird sits bravely on the swaying branch. However, human beings do not have so much faith as a tiny bird. Even with the slightest problems on the tree of life, people get very worried, why?  It is because they have lost their self-confidence. Even at the slightest suffering, people are frustrated, depressed and unable to bear. Instead of depending on your intelligence, physical strength or wealth, trust your self-confidence. Do good deeds; let every step and all your efforts be directed to win His Grace and proximity. Then, you will surely triumph! (Divine Discourse, "My Dear Students", Vol 3, Ch 3, June 30, 1996)

YESTERDAY'S THOUGHT
Each and every one of you is a spark of the Divine. Lord Krishna declares in Bhagavad Gita, "You are all essentially Divine, you are eternal and ancient.  Do not conduct yourself as a human being nor be beastial in your attitude and behavior". Each one of you is endowed with the sacred qualities of Truth, Righteousness, Love, Peace and Non-Violence. Hence, all of you must conduct yourself in accordance with these noble virtues. Never submit yourself to the evil qualities such as lust, greed, anger, jealousy, hatred and avarice. These do not befit the life of any human being. At times, changes in place or food habits give rise to other behavioural tendencies. Hence, be aware and take pure food and pure water regularly and in a timely manner. Lead a happy life, as a true human being, by observing all the rules and regulations. (Divine Discourse, "My Dear Students", Vol 2, Ch 13,  June 7, 2007)
